Stop Forgetting What You Read
BookCircle — Capture your thoughts and truly make every book your own.
Have you ever picked up a book you read years ago, only to realize you remember almost nothing about it?
I’ve been there. You remember underlining striking sentences and falling into deep contemplation while reading, but as time passes, those memories fade. Eventually, the book feels as foreign as if you’ve never opened it. We’ve all had those moments of frustration — struggling to track down a “hidden gem” of a song, a captivating character, or a breathtaking setting from a past read, only to find them lost in the fog of time because we didn’t write them down.
It was this shared experience that led me to create BookCircle — a dedicated space to gather your favorite quotes and reflections.
While BookCircle is still in its early stages with lean, focused features, I believe it can be a powerful tool for anyone who wants to preserve the lingering emotions and insights that books leave behind.
BookCircle — Reading list
As we read, we naturally find ourselves asking: “Where am I right now? How much more is left? What lies ahead in the next chapter?”
To answer these questions, I designed the BookCircle Home to provide a clear, bird’s-eye view of your progress. At a single glance, you can see your overall reading completion, the progress of your current chapter, and what’s coming up next.
But it’s more than just a tracker. Within each chapter, you can curate your own collection of favorite lines or jot down the fleeting sparks of thought and questions that arise as you turn the pages. It’s a space where reading becomes an active conversation with the author, not just a passive habit.
BookCircle — Add A Book
With BookCircle, registering a new book is as simple as taking a photo.
By capturing the cover and the table of contents, the system automatically inputs the details for you, removing the friction of manual entry. But in BookCircle, snapping a photo of the cover is about more than just convenience.
It’s a meaningful ritual. It’s the exact moment when one of the countless books on a bookstore shelf finally becomes “my book” in my hands. It’s a way to archive that fluttering excitement — the beginning of a new journey that will stay with you for the days to come.
BookCircle — Monthly Overview
The Monthly Report allows you to see your list of completed books and total pages read — all presented alongside a clean calendar view.
I personally started with a humble goal: “Just 5 pages a day.” But as I began to find joy in recording my progress with BookCircle, that small habit grew. Now, I consistently finish two to three books every month.
To bring a touch of that classic, tactile feeling to the digital experience, I added a subtle sound effect — the crisp sound of a page turning — whenever you log your reading. It’s a small detail, but I hope it makes the act of recording a “delightful moment” for those who, like me, still cherish the analog essence of reading.
BookCircle - Share notes
These days, many of us turn to book-focused YouTube channels to find our next read. We get curious not just about the plot, but about the reader’s unique perspective — what they thought, the questions they wrestled with, and the answers they uncovered. I wanted to bring that same sense of discovery to BookCircle by allowing users to share their reading notes.
In this space, you can dive into the profound reflections and curated quotes of fellow readers. My hope is that BookCircle becomes a vibrant sanctuary where you stumble upon your next favorite book through the eyes of others.
BookCircle — Completed List
Looking ahead, my vision for BookCircle is to build a bridge between readers who share the same ‘reading DNA.’ I’m designing a space where people with kindred tastes can open their bookshelves to one another, exchanging recommendations that feel deeply personal and resonant.
It has become a rare sight to spot someone lost in a book on the subway. Perhaps our commutes have grown too crowded and hectic to even consider flipping a page. It’s a scene I truly miss. My dream is to see more hands holding books instead of smartphones, even amid the rush of a busy day. I hope BookCircle can be a meaningful companion on that journey, making the act of reading feel more connected and deeply memorable.
